Digital Content & Engagement Manager

The Foundation supports a community of excellence in neuroscience, nanoscience, astrophysics, and theoretical physics through prodigious Kavli Institutes, groundbreaking meetings and initiatives, and prestigious million-dollar Kavli Prizes.The Kavli Foundation community extends to leaders in science communications and journalism, and is broadening to include those who support public engagement with scientists.The Digital Content & Engagement Manager, reporting to the Vice President for Prizes and Public Programs, is a new role to strategize and implement social media, and digital channels, to connect and serve these constituents, with an emphasis on public engagement.

You’ll be responsible for the content management and integrity of our websites and social media channels, serving point on proofing and posting content. As part of our communications team, you will be expected to innovate exciting ways to engage the public. With an eye on effective technologies and best practices, you will establish and continually respond to smart metrics. Another use of your eye will be editorial, helping the Communications Director ensure our team of freelance writers is crafting fantastic content for social media. And if you have the skills, you can help us develop new interactive content and produce videos.

Core responsibilities include:

Social Media: Working with our freelancers, contractors and staff, drive our social media channels and develop new ones. Produce and manage interactive opportunities as well, such as live conversations/webinars with our audiences (i.e., Google Hangouts, Facebook Live, Tweet-ups, Reddit, etc.). Establish metrics and provide insight and guidance for the communications team and our digital content producers.

Website Support: Guide website creation and improvement.Maintain and improve the Foundation’s digital content by posting to our sites, assuring the content’s integrity and freshness, copyediting for errors. Serve as the primary point of contact for incorporating content and collateral from other departments.

Communications and Community Support: Provide editorial and other support to the Communications Director as needed. This includes a range of activities, from reviewing copy, helping to identify new and promising media partners, and advising and providing direction to support our Kavli Foundation community. You will produce a quarterly e-newsletter, work to evolve our email distribution lists into a dynamic CRM, and create new vehicles to engage, connect, and support segments of our community.


  • Demonstration of passion for our mission
  • Brilliant at driving successful social media campaigns – especially at taking a complex topic, steeped in terminology, and making it engaging to the public
  • Possess a solid understanding of data analytics and interpretation
  • Experience with Content Management Systems, HTML/CSS (Drupal, WordPress) and Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Premier Pro, …)
  • Keen graphic eye, ideally skilled with Photoshop and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with science topics and terminology
  • Experience supporting online communities
  • Experience with Search Engine Optimization
  • Great reader with excellent proofreading skills. This includes an ability to be a consistent editor and a stickler for accuracy.
  • Proven work experience with a pro-active approach and ability to meet deadlines
  • Able to adapt to new technologies and keep abreast of new products/platforms for communications use.
  • Creative eye/thinker
  • Excellent ability to analyze where we are and how we can do better

Additional Experience:

  • Preferred: Experience developing interactive experiences
  • Preferred: Experience producing videos


  • Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
