Digital Strategist

Do you know the tricks to get people to open your email?

Do you keep up with social media trends?

Do you know how to make someone feel like a message is tailored to them?

We're seeking an expert email and social media manager to join our team. You'll create engaging content, and work with our team to accomplish campaign and fundraising goals.

This position will be part of the Communications Department and will report to the Digital Production Manager. Required travel 10-25%.

The leadership team includes award-winning individuals from different sectors who have dedicated their lives to accomplishing the mission of the organization. Define American was co-founded in April 2011 by Jose Antonio Vargas, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Collaborate with Communications team for composition of an email newsletter

Compose and schedule social media messaging with clear calls to action, following established branded templates

Engage supporters and the public around breaking news and current events

Collaborate with Communications team for composing blogs and editorial content

Reply to people engaging us & connect them with staff when appropriate

Segment lists based on behaviors like past email engagement and online interactions (content downloads, site page visits, etc.)

Create and execute on a "ladder of engagement" to convert leads into active supporters

Generate a bi-weekly report that evaluates our social media engagement and email list growth

Collaborate with Web Developer to maximize new visitors, email collection, and social media interaction

QUALIFICATIONS:

BA/BS or equivalent working experience

Past experience with email marketing and running social media, lead nurturing, marketing automation, and web analytics

Excellent understanding of email marketing concepts and metrics

Experience using Facebook Ads "Power Editor"

Highly analytical and able to derive meaning from data through testing and optimization

Excellent writer and communicator (in both the written and verbal form)

Successful candidates will possess most of the following qualifications:

Must be an exceptional strategist, adept communicator, expert collaborator, and superior project manager with the ability to build trust, inspire confidence, manage change, and work in partnership with others

Ability to successfully mitigate unexpected challenges and think outside the box while working with a small, remote team

Exceptional interpersonal/written and oral communication skills

Pre-existing familiarity with trends in immigration, racial justice, media and culture with an affinity for social justice

Able to maintain professionalism while facilitating productive conversations with opposing viewpoints

LOCATION:

Due to the remote nature of the work, candidates residing in (or willing to relocate to) Los Angeles, CA; Louisville, KY; or Washington, D.C. are preferred (to facilitate some in-person collaboration). Applicants throughout the United States will be considered.
