Drupal Developer

Montgomery, AL, United States Full Time

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a leading national civil rights organization, is seeking a Drupal Developer to join the Digital Department in its Montgomery, Ala. office. The Developer should have 2-3 years experience in maintaining and developing Drupal sites and display a passion for creating compelling user experiences in service of mission-driven online campaigns and public education work. We are currently seeking a talented, experienced Developer to join our Digital Department and work closely with the department director and our development firm to build new functionality and features on the Center’s D7 site,, as well as other web projects.


  • Develop and implement high-quality front-end code using JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
  • Build, test, deploy, and maintain website features and modules
  • Work closely with communications team, designers, and back-end developers to ensure quality user experience for a variety of target audiences
  • Lead the exploration and implementation of new technologies we might employ to offer emerging digital tools such as data visualizations, maps, and other rich content.
  • Special projects as assigned by Director, Digital.


  • B.S. in Computer or Information Science or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 2-3 years developing and maintaining Drupal sites and creating compelling user experiences
  • Non-profit web development experience preferred
  • Experience with Drupal development (D7 in particular), both front- and back-end, including module and theme development, open and/or private APIs, security measures
  • Strong proficiency in PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
  • Experience with Git and Github workflows and Drush and Drush Make builds
  • Knowledge of Solr or SearchAPI preferred
  • Experience with Pantheon hosting preferred
